Job Description
You will contribute to our systems engineering and assurance activities across our diverse project portfolio.
We support a wide range of projects which range from a multi-billion pound transformative railway infrastructure programme which will improve connectivity in the North, the introduction of new signalling systems on some of the busiest approaches into London, new Railway Stations for Local Authorities and the breakthrough in transportation technology, Hyperloop.
You will use your engineering skills to understand the integration of railway systems to help us deliver upon our commitments; keeping those that interact with the railway free from harm, keep people moving and help demonstrate how the requirements of Railway Regulatory Law are being met.
Key Accountabilities
- Providing support in the delivery of customer projects in the area of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS);
- Become involved with projects across the complete project lifecycle including tender and proposal development to ensure that an appropriate definition of the RAMS related requirements is prepared and implemented;
- Ensure all the RAMS activities are completed consistent with the project technical, budgetary and delivery requirements;
- Implement a common and auditable approach in the identification of Safety and RAM requirements, their implementation, and the demonstration of compliance with those requirements;
- Prepare System Definition documents and Project Authorisation Strategies to clearly describe the changes being made to functional railway infrastructure and the Regulatory requirements to be met;
- Prepare System Safety Plans to describe the system safety activities to be conducted throughout a project’s lifecycle;
- Contribute to the risk management process to identify hazardous events and their causes, develop safety requirements that will mitigate them and capture evidence to show how those risks have been managed through the project lifecycle;
- Develop Safety Justification Reports that describes the status of the risk management process;
- Comply with current best practice, including relevant legislation, standards (e.g. CENELEC 50126/50128/50129, the Common Safety Method (CSM), IEC 61508 etc.) and guidelines;
- Keep up to date with risk assessment and risk management issues through continuing professional development;
- Be involved in the liaison with the client and external Assessment/Approval bodies as necessary;
- Report project status and escalate any issues to the Director on a timely manner;
- Contribute to the team objectives and provide action plan to achieve the objectives.
Essential Requirements:
- Formal education in engineering, maths, computer science, science discipline
- 1 year of experience in a safety/mission critical environment.
- Experience of developing technical documentation.
Desirable Requirements:
- A degree in engineering, maths, computer science, science discipline or equivalent training.
- 1 year+ experience in rail industry or similar safety/mission critical environment
Skills/ Aptitudes/ Behaviours:
- Knowledge of Mechanical, Electronic and Systems engineering principles.
- Ability and willingness to operate at strategic and operational level.
- Ability to communicate and report, in both verbal and written English, to colleagues and clients on highly technical matters.
- Positive attitude, self-motivation, and excellent time management.
- Ability to build rapport and strong relationships.
- Ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty that comes with project delivery.
- Excellent communication and IT skills including Microsoft Office.
Other Job requirements:
- Proven right to work in the UK.
- Willing to undertake further training to fulfil the requirements of the role.
- Willing to work additional hours to meet the demands of the role. May be required to travel on company business on an ad-hoc basis.
